The 3 sites that helped me start as an internet marketer

Internet marketingI am sure no one just wakes up and decided “oh hey, I want to be in Internet Marketing.” It is more likely that they started wondering how a particular website makes money. And then they read, and read, and read a lot more. Once someone has read enough they may chose to get into the world of Internet Marketing. But my friend was talking to me a week or so ago and wanted to know why I chose to get into Internet marketing. I feel I should share my story so I can go back and read it months or years down the road.

The above Sort of describes how I started with Internet Marketing, I was surfing the internet for one day and I remember getting into a discussion about how great the Google search engine was, and I wondered why do they put so much time into making it great? they have to make money from it.. but how? So I started looking up how Google makes its money; and stumbled upon Google Adsense. Now at first I was amazed, people only needed to show ads on their sites, and they get paid? Well I started looking into this, it sounded too good to be true! there were posts by tons of people claiming to make thousands over night, but I am a very Skeptical person and thought I would be better off looking into this further.  That is when I stumbled upon The Warrior Forums, This place is filled with so much knowledge it is unbelievable!

While looking around the forums I learned a lot, I learned that Content is king (was king?) and back-links are the way to go (were the way to go?) and all of these other amazing things and when I was getting ready to dive in something changed and people where in a Panic. So again I sat back and waited for things to calm down and people to figure out what works and what does not. I did this multiple times, always finding another excuse to hold of before starting my adventure. I got caught up in reading and not acting.

While I was in my endless loop of reading and thinking I happened upon another great site, the Smart Passive Income blog by Pat Flynn, This one is probably my biggest inspiration, I started reading and following his blog when he was just starting the Niche Site Duel, This made me want to start my own niche site, and so I did.  At this point I didn’t know anything about research and Keywords, I picked something that would get a ton of traffic, Dieting… I know some of you will read this and just shake your heads, But I was a complete beginner and had the mind set that traffic = money. I did not yet grasp the concept that it is really more like (Content * Quality + back-links + Luck = Traffic = Money (maybe)).

My first Niche site looked terrible, and though I worked on back-links for about 2 months I barely got to the 9th page. I was getting pretty much no traffic, but i decided I was going to put some ads and links from Commission Junction on there. Somehow I lucked out and did make one sell (totaling 20$) and a few clicks on AdSense (about $4 worth) This was over the course of 2-3 months. It wasn’t good enough for me and I lost hope. Every once and a while I would read Pats blog, and I would get slightly Interested in trying again, but not without a plan.

That is when I fell into the last site, The Challenge.co; This site is great for people who are interested in starting out with a Niche Site or maybe starting a blog. They will help you do keyword research, create content, create back-links and get your site some traffic. The best thing about this is that they give you realistic goals and a realistic expectation of what the work will be like. Their end goal is to have your site make just $1. One single dollar. I followed this training for my second niche site (my current niche site #1) and I can say that I have made more than one dollar with it, Probably 5-6 dollar range now, and while you can get sucked into paying for courses like this, Theirs is completely free! they have you use trials of software instead of paying, And if you decide to buy it they get a commission for introducing you.

Between these three sites I have started my Adventure into the Internet marketing world, and using Pat Flynn as an inspiration I decided to create this blog to help follow my journey and motivate me to keep going. I know that It will be a slow start and there will be a lot of failures before I have what is considered success, but I am still very much excited to be trying my luck (or skill?) as an Internet marketer.

As far as blogging, the fine folks in the Yakezie network helped me out a ton. When I jumped over to niche sites, Niche Pursuits, Adsense Flippers and Mike from Maine helped me out a lot.

These are all great sites, some I have not become that familiar with myself. I will have to give them another look. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I also look to Pat Flynn. I’m big in to podcasts and his popped up one time in iTunes and I started listening to it. Podcasts in your future?

I haven’t really thought about creating a podcast just yet. I do agree with Pat Flynn’s be everywhere approach, but I am not sure when I will get involved with podcasting. Thanks for stopping by!
